Loose part

Loose parts are something that we as adults have a hard time understanding where as children just seem to take on naturally. They are items which have no set purpose for their inclusion but are adapted to create almost anything by the child's imagination. Think stones, string, gemstones, tinfoil, material, sticks etc. these can all take on many roles within small play. Below is an example of how the addition of loos parts really makes an experience comes alive, see the wool being used as a sea and thin foil was used as a river.
