At StartBright Deansrath the children have taken the responsibility to set up a doctor’s surgery in their room. It is still a work in process and is being added to all the time. So far they have collaborated as to what needs to go into the environment, the roles and responsibilities of each person and what duties need to be undertaken. The educators are following the lead of the children and watching and listening to their voice as this interest develops. They have been playful in their approach often taking the role of patient so the children can lead their play. It is wonderful to see not only the leadership skills of the children, the language being used and the recall of past experiences but also the huge empathy they have when caring for one another.
